FAQs

Dimear — Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT THE PRODUCT

What is bone conduction, and how is it different from a regular hearing aid?

Traditional hearing aids place a tiny speaker inside or behind your ear canal to amplify sound as air vibrations. Bone conduction works differently: Dimear's transducers rest against your cheekbones and send micro-vibrations directly through your skull to the cochlea — your inner ear — bypassing the ear canal entirely. This means your ears stay completely open, you maintain full awareness of your surroundings, and you avoid the plugged, muffled feeling that many people find uncomfortable with in-ear devices.

Is Dimear a medical-grade hearing aid or just a hearing amplifier?

Dimear is an FDA Class II cleared personal sound amplification and hearing assistance device engineered to audiologist standards. It is designed for adults with mild-to-moderate hearing loss — the most common type, affecting the ability to follow conversations, hear TV clearly, or catch speech in noisy environments. It is not intended for severe or profound hearing loss. If you are unsure about your degree of hearing loss, we recommend a quick hearing screening before purchasing — many audiologists and pharmacies offer these for free.

What degree of hearing loss is Dimear designed for?

Dimear is optimized for mild-to-moderate hearing loss (roughly 20–55 dB HL), which covers the majority of age-related hearing change. This typically presents as difficulty understanding speech in noisy rooms, needing to turn the TV volume up, or frequently asking people to repeat themselves. If your hearing loss has been diagnosed as severe or profound, please consult an audiologist for guidance on more specialized options.

How much amplification does Dimear provide?

The Dimear Pro S delivers up to 32 dB of gain, focused on the 500Hz–4kHz speech frequency range — the frequencies most critical for understanding human conversation. The Dimear Pro Max extends amplification to 40 dB and adds AI-powered noise cancellation for louder or more complex listening environments.

Will I be able to hear ambient sounds while wearing Dimear?

Yes — and this is one of the most important advantages of bone conduction design. Because Dimear does not block your ear canals, you hear amplified speech and your natural environment simultaneously. Many users describe it as turning up the volume on what matters while keeping the rest of the world exactly as it should sound. This also makes Dimear safer than in-ear devices for outdoor activities, as you remain aware of traffic, voices, and surroundings at all times.

Can I wear Dimear while also wearing glasses or a mask?

Yes. Dimear's flexible titanium frame rests on the cheekbones rather than behind the ears, so it does not compete for space with eyeglass temples. Most users wear both comfortably. Face masks loop around the ears and do not interfere with Dimear's fit.

FIT & COMFORT

How does Dimear fit? Will it stay in place?

Dimear uses a wrap-around titanium frame with a gentle spring tension that holds the transducer pads against your cheekbones. It is designed to sit securely during everyday activities including walking, housework, and light exercise. The frame is flexible and one-size-fits-most, comfortably accommodating a wide range of head sizes and shapes.

How much does Dimear weigh?

The Dimear Pro S weighs just 28 grams — lighter than most pairs of sunglasses. Most users report forgetting they are wearing it within the first hour.

Is Dimear comfortable to wear all day?

Dimear is engineered for all-day wear. The titanium frame is flexible and exerts minimal pressure. The transducer contact pads are soft-coated to prevent irritation during extended use. Battery life on the Pro S is 8 hours per charge, covering a full waking day for most users. If you experience any discomfort during your 30-day trial, our support team can help you adjust the fit or explore alternatives.

Can I wear Dimear while exercising or outdoors?

Yes. The Pro S carries an IP55 rating, meaning it is protected against sweat and light splashing. The Pro Max is rated IP67 and is suitable for more intense activity or light rain. Neither model is designed for swimming or submersion.

TECHNOLOGY & CONNECTIVITY

Does Dimear connect to my phone?

Yes. Dimear uses Bluetooth 5.3 and pairs with any iPhone or Android device. Once connected, you can stream phone calls, TV audio (via your phone), music, podcasts, and navigation prompts directly to your Dimear — no additional accessories required. Pairing takes less than 60 seconds.

Can I use Dimear to watch TV?

Yes, in two ways. You can connect your phone to your TV via Bluetooth or a streaming device and route audio through your phone to Dimear. Alternatively, many smart TVs support direct Bluetooth audio output — simply pair Dimear as a Bluetooth audio device in your TV's settings. For setups requiring a dedicated TV streamer, our support team can recommend compatible accessories.

How long does the battery last, and how do I charge it?

The Dimear Pro S provides up to 8 hours of continuous use per charge. The Pro Max provides up to 12 hours. Both models charge via a magnetic snap-on cable (included) — no fumbling with small ports. A full charge takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The device indicates battery level through a simple voice prompt when you power on and when the battery is running low.

Does Dimear have a mobile app?

Yes. The Dimear app (iOS and Android) allows you to adjust amplification levels, customize equalizer settings for your specific hearing profile, manage Bluetooth connections, and access quick-start tutorials. Initial setup takes about 10 minutes and can be done entirely at home — no audiologist appointment required.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Is bone conduction safe for long-term use?

Yes. Bone conduction technology has been used safely in hearing devices, military communications equipment, and swimmer's headphones for decades. There is no evidence that routine use of bone conduction devices causes harm to hearing, bone structure, or surrounding tissue. Dimear operates well within established safety thresholds for vibration intensity.

Will Dimear make my remaining hearing worse over time?

No. Dimear amplifies sound within a controlled range and does not produce the excessive volume levels that can damage hearing. Unlike many consumer headphones that can reach 100+ dB, Dimear's amplification is capped at levels considered safe for extended daily use.

Can I wear Dimear if I have tinnitus?

Many Dimear users report that clearer hearing reduces the mental fatigue and frustration that can make tinnitus feel worse. However, Dimear is not a tinnitus treatment device. If tinnitus is your primary concern, we recommend consulting an audiologist or ENT specialist, as dedicated sound therapy programs may be more appropriate alongside or instead of amplification.

Is Dimear suitable if I have had ear surgery, a ruptured eardrum, or chronic ear infections?

Bone conduction devices are frequently recommended precisely for people with conditions affecting the outer or middle ear — including chronic ear infections, perforated eardrums, and certain surgical histories — because the device bypasses the ear canal entirely. That said, we always recommend checking with your physician or audiologist before use if you have an active ear infection or recent surgical site.
